The citation formats and examples shown below are basic MLA formats.
Remember to indent five spaces on the second and any following lines of your citations. This creates a hanging indention. This web page does not allow us to indent.
If there is no author or other citation element, go to the next item in the citation.

When citing familiar reference books (basic encyclopedias, for example), omit the publication information, and indicate the edition and year of publication.

BASIC TYPING INSTRUCTION FOR A WORKS CITED PAGE
Heading - Centered at top.
Arrangement - Alphabetical by first name of word in citation.
Type size - 10 or 12
Type style - Plain text, no fancy fonts
Line spacing - Triple space after heading, Double space between citations, Single space within citation.
Spaces & Punctuation - One after comma, Two after period and colon. Follow samples shown. Period at end of each citation.
Margin & Indention - First line of citation begins at left margin, Indent all lines after the first line of citation.
Title of Source/Database - Type in Italics or underline (NOT both), Capitalize first letters of all main words.
Date - Write the date in this order --- day month year --- ex. - 12 Sept. 2001
