St. Augustine, Florida

by Christelle

This is my book about St. Augustine, Florida.

St. Augustine is located between Jacksonville and Datona Beach. It is on the east coast of Florida.

La Florida is a word that mean "land of flowers." La Florida is a Spanish word too.

Henry Flagler turned St. Augustine into a luxurious vacation spot. Henry flagler was a railroad worker too. he bought a railroad line. He made tours.

Pedro founded St. Augustine. He was a Spanish explorer.

Since Menendez spotted land on August 28, he called it St. Augustine. That's how St. Augustine got it's name.

I think St. Augustine was the first American colony because Native Americans were here before the pilgrims. Natives were all over North America, so they were in St. Augustine first.

St. Augustine has lots of historical stores. They have the oldest school house in the U.S.A.
