There are 82 species of monkeys. My favorite is the spider monkey. Spider monkeys can be 15 to 25 inches from head to toe. Their tail can be 20 to 35 inches long! Most spider monkeys weight about 16 pounds.

These monkeys live mostly in the tropical rainforests of Mexico, Central America, and some parts of South America. Spider monkeys like to eat fruit, leaves, and flowers, but mostly they eat fruit.

When baby spider monkeys are born, they are black for about 6 months. Then they start changing to their adult colors. Spider monkeys can live to be 25 years old.

The habitat of these monkeys is being destroyed. People are cutting down trees (50 trees a minute) for their homes, and this is taking away the monkey homes. It's hard for these animals to find new homes.
