Reed-Custer Technology
At the present time all four of the buildings in Reed-Custer district are connected by a wide area network.
Teacher productivity in enhanced by available technology. For example, teachers snap-mail attendance to their building office and lunch counts to the cafeteria. Administrators notify faculty of daily announcements via snap-mail.
Installation of hardware was part of our district's first technology plan. Each building in the district has more than one computer lab as well as at least one computer in every classroom. The elementary labs are Macintosh; the
High School
has both a Mac lab and an IBM lab.
The libraries in each building have many computers, all connected to the internet. Our libraries subscribe to many services that provide information and curriculum support.
As the district updates the technology plan, a major emphasis will be placed on staff development.
A key factor in district staff development will take place on a day to day basis. Each building in the district has several Technology Mentors who attended a summer workshop conducted by Dennis Fisher.
These mentors are not only familiar with software and hardware used in the district, but are also trained to help troubleshoot common problems teachers might experience as they incorporate technology into the curriculum.
At this point in time, there is still a wide variety of knowledge levels among teachers within the district regarding technology, internet access and ways to use the internet to improve student learning.
With the help of our Tech Mentors, along with inservice days set aside for tech training, as suggested by our Strategic Planning Technology Committee, all Reed-Custer teachers will become proficient in integrating technology of all kinds into their curriculums within the next two years.
