A Touch of History
The history of Custer
Park itself is chronicled in a booklet created by a few community members
of years gone by. According to the memories of Custer Park residents, wealthy
people from Chicago vacationed at the Custer Park Bowery, an amusement park
complete with boat rides on the Kankakee River, in the early 1900s. The
area once known as the Custer Park Bowery is now home to the playground
of Custer Park Elementary School!

article in the Well Connected Educator's section of the Global Schoolhouse
website.
In 2003, Reed Custer School District moved to Grade Centers. It will become the home of grades K - 2, with grades 3 - 5 moving to BES (Braidwood Elementary).
