Ted's Visit at Holbrook Indian School

Ted began his year-long trip by leaving Custer Park and flying to Holbrook Indian School in Holbrook, Arizona, USA. While at Holbrook, he was greeted and entertained by a wonderful group of first, second, and third grade Navajo students, along with Mrs. Olson, their teacher. Ted took with him a Custer Park Yearbook and the wonderful paperback book The Heartland, so that the schools he visits can learn about his home.

The real Ted E. Bear is a white bear who arrived at Holbrook Indian School sporting his favorite Custer Park t-shirt! In the picture above, you see one of Ted's cousins trying on his new Native American clothes sent to Custer Park by Mrs. Olson and the children of Holbrook.

New adventures for Ted at Holbrook included his first ride on a horse, having his picture taken in front of a hogan (a Navajo home), and being completely outfitted in Native American attire, from his new feather headdress right down to the moccasins in his tiny bear paws!

When Ted finished his visit at Holbrook, Mrs. Olson packed him up, along with his picture album and journal, and mailed him to Costa Rica. She sent his Native American clothes, copies of his journal pages and pictures, and a beautiful movie about Holbrook back to the students of Custer Park.

The day the package arrived from Holbrook School, our children were so excited! They looked at the clothes Mrs. Olson had sent for Ted, a beautiful video about Holbrook School, journal entries written by Holbrook students while Ted was there, and many other tokens of friendship!

Our students continue to have a real interest in learning more about the Navajo and other Native American tribes since Ted's visit to Holbrook. Our thanks to all the students of Mrs. Olson's class making learning real and enjoyable for our Custer Park students!
