The Travels of Excalibear in France

Excalibear, one of our very well-traveled bears, took a fabulous trip with Grandma and Grandpa Becker October 2002. Itinerary highlights included:

Paris, France

Of course, no visit to Paris would be complete without a trip to the Eiffel Tower, built by Gustave Eiffel. Did you know it is 1665 steps to the top?

Honfleur

Excalibear visited Honfleur, and old fishing village with old world charm and home of Eugene Boudin, the artist who trained young Monet.

Next stop ... Normandy

The trip included a visit to Omaha Beach in Normandy, France where US and allies invaded France during World War II to help liberate Europe from Germany. Of course, the invasion meant many soldiers lost their lives in the quest for freedom.

Excalibear visited The City of Spires

Spires means steeples and Rouen, the capital of Normandy, was once home to 32 churches and often called the city of a thousand spires.

Home and Gardens of Claude Monet ...

a trip highlight!

Wonderful, beautiful, inspiring!

Another stop on this trip included the Chateau de Malmaison, located about 7 miles from Paris. This was once the country home of Napoleon, purchased by his wife, Josephine. Today it is a museum.

We hope you have learned just a touch of history with the help of Excalibear. Perhaps you'll want to learn more about Paris, World War II, or Monet!
