August 2011

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to Reed-Custer High School.  It is always exciting to start a new school year with new challenges and goals to be accomplished.  We encourage all students to get off to a good start and get involved here at RCHS.  We also want parents to be involved in their student’s education and in the school community.  Be sure to take advantage of all the great opportunities we offer at Reed-Custer.

Through our district strategic planning process this past year we have a new mission statement that explains why we exist and what our vision is for each of our students.  Our mission is to make a difference in students’ lives through excellence in education.  We want our students to be self-directed learners, problem solvers, community contributors, morally responsible, critical thinkers, effective communicators and quality producers. We value each and every one of our students and want to develop the whole child.  We will encourage students to make appropriate choices every day by being respectful, responsible and a positive role model for other students.  We will provide a challenging curriculum and find new ways to enhance learning through the use of technology.  With the help of staff and students we aim to make Reed-Custer High School a safe positive learning environment for all students.

This school year, we will be implementing a new homeroom “Comet Time” schedule one day each week that will help with student success through our school improvement and Response to Intervention plan.  This time will also be used to promote school pride, implement character education and help to build a positive school climate.  Lastly, we will expand on our Homework Depot tutoring at lunchtime by offering it before and after school throughout the school year.

In closing, I would like to wish all of you the very best for a happy and successful school year.  I am proud to be your principal and a part of the great tradition of excellence at Reed-Custer.  I encourage each of you to do your best, work hard and bring a positive attitude to school every day so that you can reach your true potential.

Sincerely,

Tim Ricketts
Principal
