Announcements!

 

5/22 -

Memorial Day Ceremony:

This is a required event! It is very important that we give back to our community and our veterans. Call time will be 8:30 AM at the Veteran’s Memorial in Braidwood (on rt. 113 across from City Hall). The service will begin at 9:00 am and will be about a half hour. Students need to wear their gold polos. (We will set up chairs and stands at 8 AM at the Veteran’s Memorial if you are able to help!)

Drumline & Colorguard:

 

The Drumline and Colorguard will meet throughout the summer on Tuesdays beginning on June 12. Colorguard will meet at 9 - 10 AM and Drumline will meet at 10:00 - 11:00 AM. We will NOT meet on July 3rd.

Summer Lessons:

 

I will be offering lessons again on Tuesdays throughout the summer. I will be teaching the winds and Mr. Klos will be teaching the brass students. There is no charge for lessons with me or Mr. Klos, so make sure you get in! You can set up lessons with him by email: michael.klos@rc255.net Wil Padera will also be offering lessons with percussion, music theory and aural training. If you would like to set up lessons with Wil, email him at: wpadera@yahoo.com

Summerfest Parade:

 

The Summerfest rehearsal will be on Friday, July 20th from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Drumline and Colorguard will begin rehearsal at 5:30 PM. The Parade will be on Sunday, July 22nd - We will meet behind Casey’s at 12:30 PM - wear shorts, gold polo and tennis shoes ( NO sandals).

2/22 -

MUSIC DEPARTMENT MATTRESS SALE ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25TH!  10AM - 5PM INTHE HIGH SCHOOL COMMONS.  Profit goes to the students' individual accounts and Music Boosters. 

Musical Pit Rehearsals.  We have a full pit rehearsal on Friday (2/24) at 3PM and Sunday (2/26) from 1-4PM.

 

2/7 -

Feb. 7th - Jazz Band Rehearsal from 6 - 8 PM for ALL jazz students.  6-7pm will be with the Middle School Jazz Band.

Feb. 12th - JAVA 'n JAZZ Concert!  Call time for students is 1:30 PM.  The Choir Room door (Entrance A3) will be open.  Yearbook pictures will be taken on this day.  Concert begins at 2:00 PM and no admission will be charged.  Coffees and desserts will be offered for a donation.  The MS Jazz Band and HS Combo and Jazz Band will be performing (plan on an hour long concert). 

Feb. 16th - Honors Jazz Combo at Prairie State Jazz Festival. 

Feb. 17th and Feb. 20th - Pit Rehearsals 9:00 - Noon.

Fundraiser Update: 

Friday, November 18th - Butterbraid Pickup after school in the HS Choir Room - I'll have the A3 Door open (the outside choir room door) so you don't have to go through the main office. The product is frozen, so please be sure to arrange pick up.

Monday, November 21st - Fannie May is due. NO LATE ORDERS CAN BE ACCEPTED!! Delivery will be the WEEK of Dec. 5th to the address you put on your order form.

We started Greenery yesterday - orders are due Friday, Dec. 2nd with Delivery on Monday, Dec. 12th.

11/9 -

The Legion Band Concert is on Sunday, Nov. 13th - call time is 12:45 PM.  I hope you will come out to support the music department and the veterans of our community.  The concert begins at 1:30 PM in the District Auditorium.  There is not an admission, but we will accept donations to cover the cost of the Legion Band.

 

11/2 -

We do have a Music Booster Meeting on Thursday, Nov. 3rd at 7:15 PM in the HS Choir Room.  I hope to see you there!

10/20 -

Congratulations to John Hicks for qualifying for the District 1 IMEA Concert Band!!  Great job!

Thursday, Oct. 27th - the Honors Jazz Combo will perform at the Catholic Chuch in Braidwood for the Charity Tea.  5:00 PM call time for HC Members. 

Music Department Halloween Dance is on Friday, October 28th!  Awards for the best costumes!

 

10/14 -

Oct. 14th - Senior Night Home Football Game.  Call time is 5:45 PM.  Parents of Seniors should meet at the North end of the football field by 6:45 PM.  This is our last home football game of the season.

Honors Jazz Combo will meet on Mondays 3:00-  3:30 PM and Thursdays 7:00 AM.  We have a performance at the Catholic Church in Braidwood on Thursday, October 27th.  We will leave RCHS by 5:00 PM and return by 6:30 PM. 

Jazz Band for Tuesday, Oct. 18th will meet from 6:00 - 8:00 PM

Band Auditions will be due on Friday, Oct. 21st.  This is for chair placement and for a Test Grade.  Auditions can be recorded at home, but must be turned in no later than Oct. 21st. 

 

10/5 -

Congrats to the Marching Comets for 1st Place at the Morris Corn Festival Parade!

We have a Booster Meeting on Thursday at 7:15 PM in the High School Choir Room. Among the other discussions will be the Disney Trip and the Halloween Dance. We will have an official Disney Trip Meeting as we get closer to the trip.

Hopefully you have been hearing some practicing at home. We have our chair auditions on October 21st. This is for chair placement and a test grade. The students will play the IMEA Scale Sheet and two Music Excerpts. (Percussionists will also do Rudiments) They can record their auditions at home or at school, but it must be turned in by Oct. 21st for full credit.

Morris Corn Festival Parade Competition
Sunday, October 2, 2011

Schedule:

1:15 PM Load the busses and trailer (North Parking Lot) - the trailer will be in the
parade with the HS Band
1:45 PM Depart for Morris
2:30 PM Arrive at Morris
4:00 PM Depart for RCHS?? This is my BEST GUESS, please do not schedule events assuming that your child will be done by this time. I will have a phone, students will be able to call parents on the way home for you to meet them at the High School. I apologize for the inconvenience, but it all depends on how quickly we move through the parade. Parents will be able to pick up their students from the parade in the Morris High School parking lot. If I do not have a written note that you are taking your child home, please check in before you leave.

Uniforms:

- Winds and Drumline: jackets, bibbers, hats/plumes, berets, BLACK gloves, BLACK socks, and BLACK MARCHING shoes. ALL hair up and off the uniform (ladies and gentlemen). Hair must be up for ladies and gentlemen, no hair on uniforms. NO nail polish or heavy make-up (gentlemen included).

- Colorguard: uniforms, BLACK socks, BLACK shoes and with all hair uniform .

- We will perform MAMBO - ABSOLUTELY NO FLIP FOLDERS USED DURING THE PERFORMANCE.

- Section Leaders: Please check with your section, make sure they have everything before they board the bus. Grab an extra pair of black socks and black shoes just in case!

- The Parade begins at 2:00 PM

 

Transportation to and from the parade:

All students must ride the bus to the event. If you are leaving with your parents from Morris, I must have a note from your parents PRIOR to the event. If you did not give me a note before the event, DO NOT LEAVE the event without checking out with Mrs. Lovino first. If you riding home with a parent other than your own, I must have written consent from YOUR parents to do so. You are responsible for your uniform and instrument if you leave the parade with your parents. You must arrange for someone riding the bus to bring back your uniform and take your instrument with you and bring back to school on Monday.

7/15 -

SUMMERFEST 2011

Sunday, July 17th - We will meet behind Casey’s on Bergera Road at 12:30 PM. Step off is at 1:00 PM. The school will be open to get instruments and load percussion from 11:45 AM - 12:15 PM. We will march from Casey’s to the City Park. This area is very congested after the parade, but please pick up your child from the Braidwood Park District Building at the corner of Lincoln and First. Brown building across from the city park. If you have any questions, please contact me at: 815-351-2304.

Middle School Students will wear the marching panther t-shirts (available for $7 at the parade on Sunday) or a Reed-Custer t-shirt and jean shorts and TENNIS SHOES. NO SANDALS, please.

High School Students will wear the gold polos (available for $17 at the parade on Sunday) and jean shorts and TENNIS SHOES. NO SANDALS, please.

SUMMERFEST PARADE

Please make every effort to make it to the Summerfest Parade. It is important that we give back to the community that continues to support our Music Program.  Sunday, July 17th - The RCMS Marching Panthers and the RCHS Marching Comets will team up for the SUMMERFEST PARADE. We will rehearse on Friday, July 15th from 6PM to 8PM in the High School Band Room. The dress for the parade will be your gold polo shirt, jean shorts and tennis shoes. (NO sandals/flip flops - wear socks and tennis shoes for the rehearsals and the performance!) We will play “All Star” for this parade. If you are unable to make it to the rehearsal, but can make the performance, call me at the High School number - 458-2166 ext. 3310 and I will make sure to have music there for you.

SUMMER BAND LESSONS

BAND CAMP 2011

Dates: August 1st - 4th from 8:00 - Noon and August 8th - 9th from 8 to Noon.

We have our first home football game on Friday the 26th - the first week of school. So, we will be learning the show and attendance is required!! If you are unable to make a day, please call. Please make sure work schedules are cleared and avoid physicals during band camp or senior pictures. Please reschedule those appointments so you do not miss any time!
During Band Camp - EAT BREAKFAST, bring a water bottle, wear cool, loose (but appropriate) clothing and NO SANDALS or FLIP FLOPS - only tennis shoes! We are planning some fun events for the last day of band camp. Parents, if you are available to help, please let me know (last day activities or uniforms).

MUSIC BOOSTER ACCOUNT STATEMENT

If you have money in your account, you received an account statement. If your total is NEGATIVE, that is how much money you have in your account. If your total is POSITIVE, you need to pay that amount to the Boosters, that means you are overdrawn in your account.

DISNEY TRIP 2012

We are planning a Music Department Trip to Disney World in Florida. The trip would be after school is out and we would be driving, not flying. We are trying to plan an affordable and exciting trip. More details to come. Information will be at the Music Booster table at Registration in July.

VANDERCOOK LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

Invitations for the Leadership Conference will be included for section leaders and band officers. Please have forms returned to me by May 31st.

Madrigal Dinner tickets now on sale! Click HERE to download a ticket order form. Please make sure you send both your payment and order form to the Reed-Custer High School Music Deparment. A confirmation letter will be sent back once the order and payment have been processed.

Please add to the Calendar of Events for the students involved in the MADRIGAL ENSEMBLES:  Friday, December 3rd 4 - 8PM, we will perform at the Festival of Trees in Diamond. 

Madrigal Ensembles (Brass, Clarinets) - Dress Rehearsal is Friday, December 10th from 4 - 8PM and the dinners are:  Saturday, December 11th (call time is 4:45 PM) and Sunday, December 12th (call time is 2:45 PM).

Holiday Concert - Wednesday, December 15th at 7:30 PM.
